bustle coat 1880

For such a complicated shape, the construction is amazingly simple. Just pull the back skirt up, à la polonaise, with the three thread loops and attach them to the buttons at the waist. The coat can also be displayed or worn without the polonaise effect.
The coat is fashioned from brown linen and is elaborately decorated with darker brown chain stitch embroidery. The armholes have self-covered corded piping. The coat is unlined and unstructured without bones, making it suitable for summer comfort. It closes in front with self-covered buttons, which are amazingly all intact. http://vintagetextile.com
